Ile-de-France Spatial Planning

The Climate Plan and Green Paper
Each year, 79 million tonnes of CO2 are emitted in the Ile-de-France. The current situation has not only ecological consequences for the future of the region and the world, but also a significant impact on economic and social health of the region. The Region decided to act and on the 24th June 2011 they adopted The Climate Plan.

Prior to this important political achievement, as part of the C-Change project research was carried out into climate change scenarios for the Ile-de-France region. This resulted in the publication The Green Paper in July 2010.
         

The Region's Spatial Plan: SDRIF
The SDRIF serves as a strategic vision for the development of the region in the next 25 years. Unlike other regional plans in France, the SDRIF is also a prescriptive land-use document, controlling spatial growth across the region.

The plan addresses climate change in particular in its goals and objectives. The Île-de-France Region has set itself the objective to reduce emissions by three quarters by the year 2030.

 The plan sets out mitigation and adaptation strategy relating to:

• Town proximity, in particular reduction of travelling between home and workplaces by creating housing near large employments concentrations.

• Density and prevention of urban sprawl. Designation of urban frontier to limit extensions, to reduce of urban sprawl into farmland

• Prioritisation of publics transport and developing new transports links in existing dense urban areas.

• Strengthening ecosystems and enhancing open spaces.
